Although the discourse around floods in urban areas and sea level rise has intensified, it is still river floods that are most frequently registered (two thirds of the total) as a source of significant flooding in the EU.
Flood risks remain significant in Romania. However, the country has improved data collection, planning, and governance to address these risks, meeting the requirements of the EU Flood Directive. Investments outlined in Flood Risks Management Plans amount to approximately €3.7 billion, indicating a commitment to future flood management efforts.
