Esau is the elder twin brother of Jacob and the son of Isaac and Rebecca in the Hebrew Bible. He is known for selling his birthright to Jacob, being deceived by Jacob, and becoming the progenitor of the Edomites in Mount Seir.
29 mar 2024 · Esau was Abraham’s grandson, the older twin born to Isaac and Rebekah (the younger was Jacob). Rebekah had a difficult pregnancy, and God told her it was because “two nations are in your womb; . . . one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger” (Genesis 25:23).
Esau was the older twin. Scripture relates that when leaving their mother’s womb, Jacob grasped Esau’s heel, as if to delay his birth. The Midrash relates that Jacob was actually created from the first drop of semen, while Esau was created from the second.
Esau, who lost his birthright and blessing, forfeited the rights of the first-born. He ha d, however, a satisfying life in the region of Mt. Seir. His descendants are the Edomites.

The Bible does not describe Esau at great length; but he is featured as a hairy man, "a skillful hunter, a man of the outdoors," and the favored son of Isaac, in sharp contrast to Jacob, a mild man, "smooth-skinned," and the favored son of Rebekah (Gen. 25:25, 27–28; 27:11).
