On August 27, 2021, the Department of Education (“ED”) mandated that institutions assign all Perkins Loans that were more than two years delinquent back to the government. Though the June 30, 2023 deadline has passed, institutions must continue to show progress in assigning past-due loans.
On August 27, 2021, the Department announced that it was mandating all colleges and universities submit their Perkins Loans that are in excess of two years delinquent for assignment by June 30, 2022, or purchase the balances of unassignable loans.
After delaying the deadline by a year, the Department of Education recently confirmed that June 30, 2023 will remain the final date to assign all Perkins Loans more than two years delinquent back to the government.
