The Sindh Education and Literacy Department was established with the aim of fulfilling the state's responsibility of providing basic education to its people. The government of Sindh stands committed to universalise education under the Sindh Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2013.
The SESP&R sets out a target of reducing the number of out of school children in Sindh by 1.8 million children in 2024. This will be achieved using a multi-pronged approach to access formal and non-formal education.
In order to ensure the access of education and increase the literacy rate, the School Education and Literacy Department (SE&LD), Government of Sindh has established the Directorate of Literacy & Non-Formal Education in 2002.
