In 2015, Poland toughened its penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol (BAC above 0.5 g/l). Offenders now face a driving ban (for all types of vehicles) from 3 to 15 years (previously from 1 year to 10 years), with re-offenders facing a lifetime driving ban.

Driving with 0.15% BAC by mass and above (legally defined as Drunk Driving) is a distinct offence from having over 0.08% but under 0.15% BAC, and is subject to heavier penalties. Persistent offenders may be barred from driving for terms up to and including life, and may be imprisoned.
For drivers 21 years or older, driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher is illegal. For drivers under 21 years old, the legal limit is lower, with state limits ranging from 0.00 to 0.02. [2] Lower BAC limits apply when operating boats, airplanes, or commercial vehicles.
