Most of EU final energy consumption in households is covered by natural gas (31.7%) and electricity (24.8%). Renewables accounted for 20.3%, followed by oil and petroleum products (12.3%) and derived heat (8.2%).
Renewable energies account for the highest share in energy production. Renewable energy (43% of total EU energy production) was the largest contributing source to energy production in the EU in 2022. Nuclear energy (28%) was the second largest source, followed by solid fuels (19%), natural gas (6%) and crude oil (3%).
