The number of days the DOE can be in session varies each year. The 2024-2025 school year calendar can be summarized as follows: First day of school for students: Thursday, September 5, 2024. Last day of school for students: Thursday, June 26, 2025. Minimum days in session required by New York State law: 180.
See the calendar page on the DOE website for additional events, languages and search options. September. 2 (Monday) — Labor Day (schools closed) 3–4 (Tuesday to Wednesday) — Staff reports; students not in attendance. 5 (Thursday) – First day of school for students.
Diwali: Friday, November 1. Lunar New Year: Wednesday, January 29. Eid al-Fitr: Monday, March 31. Second Day of Passover: Monday, April 14. Good Friday: Friday, April 18. Eid al-Adha: Thursday, June 5. holidays fall on weekends. They are Yom Kippur (Saturday, October 12), and the first day of P. Election Day (Tuesday, November 5) .
