Learn about the four types of desert biomes and their characteristics, such as temperature, rainfall, and location. Discover the plants and animals that have adapted to survive in these harsh environments.
14 paź 2024 · Desert, any large, extremely dry area of land with sparse vegetation. It is one of Earth’s major types of ecosystems, supporting a community of plants and animals specially adapted to the harsh environment. In deserts, trees are usually absent, and shrubs or herbaceous plants provide only very incomplete ground cover.
The daytime temperature averages 38°C while in some deserts it can get down to -4°C at night. The temperature also varies greatly depending on the location of the desert. Since desert conditions are so severe, the plants that live there need to have adaptations to compensate for the lack of water.
