In his room, he finds, to his horror/fascination, that the Death Note is real, and owned by Ryuk, a Shinigami (Death God). Any person's name written in the Death Note will die in 40 seconds as long as the person's name is not the same as some one else. But if the name is unique, the person will die.... without fail.
Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer.
