7 mar 2023 · Geneva - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its 2022 Safety Report for global aviation. The report showed a reduction in the number of fatal accidents and the fatality risk, compared to 2021 and to the five year average (2018-2022).
Commercial aviation in 2023 marked a historic milestone, by achieving its safest year to date by several parameters. The year set a record for the lowest number of fatal accidents, with no scheduled passenger jets involved in hull loss or fatal accidents.

In 2020, scheduled commercial air transport accidents resulted in 298 fatalities representing an increase from 239 in 2019. The number of fatal accidents decreased from six in 2019 to four in 2020. The total number of accidents decreased from 52 in 2019 to 38 in 2020. The total number of fatal accidents decreased from 8 in 2019 to 5 in 2020.
