In 1916 the four existing companies of the time (Heston, Salamander, Star, and Winyah) were merged into the Georgetown Fire Department. The department became fully motorized in 1924. A new American LaFrance pumper with a 750 gpm pump was purchased in 1928, and was named Old Number 2.
