The City has implemented new reforms around driver’s license suspension, booting, ticketing and towing. Ticketing and Boot Reforms 24 Hour Extension On Booted Cars: After a car has been booted, an individual has 24 hours to either pay in full or get on a payment plan before their car is towed.
24 Hour Extension On Booted Cars: After a car has been booted, an individual has 24 hours to either pay in full or get on a payment plan before their car is towed. Under the terms of the new law, individuals can request an additional 24 hours to make a payment prior to a tow.
Payment for booted vehicles can be made at the airports and city auto pounds. Payments are accepted at the auto pounds, Midway and O'Hare airports for booted vehicles. If the payment centers are closed and the citizen wants to pay, please direct them to the following locations: O'Hare Airport. City Auto Pound, Lot G.
The motorist must either a) pay all fines, penalties, and fees or b) contest the validity of the Notice of Seizure at an in-person hearing within 21 days of the Notice of Seizure. If the motorist fails to pay or contest, the vehicle is subject to be seized ("booted").

To set up a payment plan, visit the City of Chicago Payment Plan Portal. If you have 3 or more parking tickets, your vehicle may be booted (immobilized) by the city. The city is also allowed to boot your car after 2 or more unpaid parking tickets if they are unpaid for more than a year.
