UTSA is approved by the Texas Education Agency to offer teacher candidates various routes to teacher certification. The Accelerated Certification Program (ACP) is a track that allows students who have earned a Bachelor's degree or higher to obtain Texas teacher certification at the elementary and secondary level.
In order to become a certified teacher in Texas, you must: Obtain a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Complete a TEA approved educator preparation program. Pass required certification exams including the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) exam and all certification related content exams.
In order to teach in Texas, you must receive a certification by passing the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) test. You also must complete your training and 50 hours of field based experience (FBE) before you can apply for your teacher certification.
