It is owned and operated by the network's CBS News and Stations division alongside independent station KPYX (channel 44), also licensed to San Francisco.
KCBS's city of licence was also officially changed from San Jose to San Francisco. In 1968, KCBS became one of the first all-news stations in the country, as CBS was converting many of its radio stations nationwide to the format, developed at WCBS in New York City .
