15 lip 2015 · 36th Avenue in the Fruitvale district of East Oakland, California, is the turf of four major gangs. The fourth one, according to Pancho Ramos-Stierle, who is one of the anchors of Casa de Paz (House of Peace), is the police, an institutionalized gang, and the most dangerous.
Their new intentional community is located right on the fault line between two “gangs” in one of Oakland’s most violent neighborhoods. Fifteen community members live in four houses which connect around a large backyard.
In the Fruitvale area of Oakland, California, residents are opening their doors and their hearts, fostering peace in their neighborhood—one block at a time. Casa de Paz is one of several houses joined by a common backyard/ farm, where friends and neighbors are encouraged to join in sowing peace and sharing the labor of love.
