4 mar 2024 · The statistics reveal that around 20,400 people were killed in road accidents in the EU in 2023, representing a small 1% decrease compared to the 2022 figures. Only a few Member States are on track to meet the EU target of reducing road fatalities by half by 2030.
The age group 65 years old and older recorded the largest number of fatalities in seven Member States and in two EFTA countries: Denmark (34.4 %), Germany (36.7 %), Malta (33.3 %), the Netherlands (42.7 %), Austria (32.2 %), Slovenia (36.5 %), Sweden (36.1 %), Norway (32.8 %)
In 2022, the number of motor-vehicle crash deaths peaked for the 25-44 age group and was lowest for children under 5 years old. The death rate per 100,000 population was highest among people 75 and older and lowest for children 5 to 14 years old. Age group death rates vary by type of crash.

1 wrz 2018 · When crash involvement for age-gender groups was examined by time of day, it was found that nighttime crashes accounted for 80% (95% CI, 80%–81%) of the traditional single-car fatal crash risk for 17- to 20-year-old men and 85% (95% CI, 84%–86%) for women (Fig. 2 A).
