Ben Ray Luján (/ l uː ˈ h ɑː n / loo-HAHN; [2] born June 7, 1972) is an American politician who has served as the junior United States senator from New Mexico since 2021. He served as the U.S. representative for New Mexico's 3rd congressional district from 2009 to 2021 and as Assistant Speaker [ a ] from 2019 to 2021.

He served in the State House from 1975 through 2012. He was elected as Speaker beginning in 2001, serving until his death in office. [3]
