A blood clot often forms in arteries damaged by a buildup of plaques, known as atherosclerosis. It can occur in the carotid artery of the neck as well as other arteries.
Ischemic stroke and acute coronary syndromes are similar because they are both caused by sudden arterial occlusion. Different causes and pathological processes can result in occlusion; therefore, approaches to treatment differ as well. Time to treatment is a critical factor affecting outcome for both ischemic stroke and acute coronary syndromes.
