The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is a single-seat subsonic carrier-capable light attack aircraft designed and produced by the American aerospace manufacturer Douglas Aircraft Company, and later, McDonnell Douglas. It was originally designated A4D under the United States Navy 's pre-1962 designation system.
The final Skyhawk rolled off the assembly line in February 1979, the last of nearly 3,ooo built. Starting in 1955, the small but powerful A-4 flew with Navy and Marine units, eventually flying combat missions during the Vietnam War. The Skyhawk was the aircraft flown by the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, better known as the Blue Angels, for the 1975-1986 seasons.

In 1986, Blue Angels celebrated its 40th Anniversary by unveiling the Boeing F/A-18 Hornet, which still flies to this day.
