The 4MAT model was originally developed by Bernice McCarthy in 1980. It is based on research from many fields, but mainly is a synthesis of findings from the fields of learning styles, and right and left brain dominance. It entails the use of right and left-mode strategies within four distinct phases of the learning cycle….. Experiencing.
What is the 4MAT Model? To Perceive & Process. The 4MAT model awakens our understanding of how we learn. We learn by perceiving new information then processing it to make it ours. Perceiving and processing are the two fundamental dimensions of the 4MAT model.
4 MAT składa się z czterech części (stąd nazwa). Część pierwsza służy wzbudzeniu motywacji oraz wyjaśnieniu celu pracy. Nauczyciel może motywować poprzez wskazywanie praktycznych zastosowań, zaciekawienie, zaintrygowanie. W tej części nawiązujemy do wcześniejszych doświadczeń uczniów.
The 4MAT system is designed to provide every student with a preferred task during every lesson. Listed below are the 8 instructional events proposed by this system.
Using the Tool. At the heart of 4MAT is a 12-step learning cycle that learners go through as they learn new skills. Effective instructors work with this cycle, seeking to engage the learner; provide information, knowledge and theory; deliver the skills being taught; and cement the knowledge learned.
The Complete 4MAT System Model. When the elements and the theories of: Percieve, Process, Learning styles and Brain hemispheres are all combined, we have the framwork of the complete 4MAT system model for instructional development.
The different styles in the 4MAT model provide a framework for understanding why we are different and what strategies we can use to work better together. But what is more important than learning styles is the guidance for teachers and instructors on how to design learning that embraces all learning styles.
