31 paź 2013 · If you want to use digital in VHF/UHF, you need either an SSB transceiver (might be available for 2 meters?) or a digital radio (using D-STAR, TRBO, or something else) or an SDR (a software defined radio may allow the necessary types of operation).
Most digital modes will be done using SSB, so you'll need a radio like an icom 7100 or 705 that can do SSB AND have built in CAT + audio in/out vis USB (cable). You can get digital interfaces for other older radios, but they still need to do SSB.
5 wrz 2013 · My question is are there any digital modes that can be used on either the 2 meter or 440 bands using this unit? Something like PSK31, RTTY, pactor or the like. Having never been involved in digital transmission modes prior to this any info would be helpful.
The 2-meter band is a popular choice for digital packet transmission, with 144.39MHz (North America) and 144.8MHz (Europe) commonly used for APRS operation. Propagation Signals in this band travel primarily line-of-sight or slightly further.
