1 lip 2018 · Original Sixteen To One Mine. July 1, 2018. The 16 to 1 Mine is one of the big boys on the block. Originally producing over one million ounces of gold the 16 to 1 is one of the most famous mines in the Mother Lode. One of very few hard rock lode mines still operating.
The main ore extracted from the mine is gold, and the waste material primarily consists of talc, quartz, and sericite. The ore body itself is 15 meters (50 feet) thick. The surrounding area is characterized by the Sierra Nevada mountain range, which is part of the Pacific Mountain System.
