28 maj 2009 · Z-Codes are mainly used over commercial and military teleprinter, facsimile and high speed automatic telegraphy links and are not normally used by Radio Amateurs, even when using RTTY, but the list is included for general interest.
Z Code (like Q Code and X Code) is a set of operating signals used in CW, TTY and RTTY radio communication.
Operating signals are concise codes designed primarily for use by communication personnel in exchanging information incident to the handling of messages or in establishing communications. Communication personnel also use them in service messages.
Q Signals (Q code) (This is a list of the signals that are favored by amateur radio operators. A more comprehensive. list, used by maritime and other services, is listed at the bottom of this page) Q Signals can be used either with, or without, a question mark.
ACP-131[1] is the controlling publication for the listing of Q codes and Z codes. It is published and revised from time to time by the Combined Communications Electronics Board (CCEB) countries: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom, and United States.
Although not provided for in the meaning of a Q or Z signal, a frequency may be used with any such operating signal by adding figures and the appropriate abbreviation ("kHz" (kilohertz) or "MHz" (megahertz)).
