With some help I was able to come up with a correlation between the serial number letter prefix and the year of manufacture in the logbooks. I have also come up with a pattern of how the Yugo SKS design evolved.
The Yugoslavian M59/66 rifle will usually have the serial number marked in eight locations. The first six are visible with the rifle fully assembled: Left side of the receiver.
7 sty 2016 · The gas tube stamped serial number is only 364 off from the rifle serial number. All stamped parts also have a etched number. The etched number matches the barrel serial number.
Yugoslavian SKSs are one of the more common kinds in the U.S. after Chinese guns, and they’re the most distinctive and easy to identify as well. The most common Yugo SKS pattern is the Zastava M59/66 PAP which was built under license from the USSR.

The Albanian SKS is dated using the numbers on the left side of the receiver. The year is actually stamped into the receiver. Note after the serial number there is a dash and then the last two digits of the year.
