17 maj 2013 · I read that DV was 704 scan lines (one pixel per scan line), compared to 720 or 1080 for HD. It sounds like you're basically talking DVD (SD) resolution vs. BluRay (HD). Whether the former is acceptable depends on the audience, but a word of wisdom: once you've shoot footage it's usually impossible to go back and re-shoot it.
Doing HDMI capture to OBS means you have that extra unneeded conversion step. You'll need to find software that can interact with it, but they aren't too hard to find. If you have access to big NLE's like Premiere or Final Cut, they should have a camera import function that'll accomplish this.
There's a fair bit of DV capable software out there, but it's getting trickier to find stuff that will run on modern operating systems. It'll sound absolutely insane, but if you can find a copy of Windows Movie Maker somewhere (the one designed for XP), it's actually really useful for DV capture.
