With WWII aircraft carrier USS Yorktown as centerpiece, the Museum is also home to destroyer USS Laffey, the Cold War Memorial, the Vietnam Experience, the Medal of Honor Museum and the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.
The primary goal of the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is to reach beyond the history of the four famous combat ships enshrined within at the museum and honor all the major World War II naval combatants.
Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum was officially opened to the public on January 3, 1976. Today the museum consists of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10) with 29 aircraft on display from WWII to the present; the USS Laffey (DD-724), a Sumner-class destroyer; and the USS Clamagore (SS-343), a GUPPY III submarine.
9 paź 2024 · Standing on the USS Yorktown’s flight deck, with a view of Charleston’s church steeples and historic buildings across the harbor, I could see why Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum was one of the most exciting military museums in the country.
14 lip 2019 · The Naval and Maritime Museum at Patriots Point is pretty spectacular and definitely worth a visit if you are in the neighbourhood. By ‘neighbourhood’ I mean pretty much anywhere on the central east coast of the continent! The largest exhibit by far is the aircraft carrier, USS Yorktown CV-10.
20 maj 2021 · The PPNMM, which opened in January 1976, sits just across the harbor from Charleston in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Besides the Yorktown, it offers four other military components: the Medal of Honor Museum, the USS Laffey destroyer, the USS Clamagore submarine and the Vietnam Experience.
