The bodies of nearly 300 of these missing people were later discovered, mutilated corpses which bore the signs of murder and exposure to the elements.
This movie pushes both buttons. From what I've read a major point of consternation about this movie is its ending which offers no clear answers about what the hell happened and is, frankly, wide open to multiple interpretations.
If you thought this movie was scary I encourage you to go watch The Ritual on Netflix. It really seems like the ritual is everything yellow brick road wanted to be but perfectly executed and the plot ties together nicely by the end of the film.
