I bought my Yaesu MD1-B8 (not the C8) to use with my FT-102 about 30 years ago. Like the FT-102, it is a classic that has stood the test of time, even with modern transmitters. Today, I use it with a Ten-Tec Orion II, for which I have several Ten-Tec mikes. The MD-1 is the best.

I acquired an MD-100ax8 a couple of years after getting my FT-897, (over 20 years ago), and have always gotten 5-star audio reports. I also had the mic clip crack just above the yoke.

Gets excellent TX audio reports when set up correctly (ALC/ Mic gain/ Proc and Comp) Digital Noise Reduction is great on lower settings, specially for CW. Auto-notch is very fast and very effective. The Noise-Blanker easily kills electric fence noise. Plenty of buttons for Dual VFO, Memory and RIT/XIT control.

The FT-891 can be used as a mobile or base station. It is compact and has a detachable face. The die cast case makes the unit pretty rugged.
