Having used earlier desk microphones with earlier Yaesu rigs over the years, I must say that this M-100 works extremely well with my FTDX 3000. Tweaking the equalizer settings inside the 3000, and using. both the condenser and dynamic elements, I was able to attain a very nice sound quality.

I acquired an MD-100ax8 a couple of years after getting my FT-897, (over 20 years ago), and have always gotten 5-star audio reports. I also had the mic clip crack just above the yoke.
If you need more depth for your voice with the Yaesu mic, try a bandwidth of 5 to 8, or even 10, at 300 Hertz. Note that I find the SSM-75E settings will get you close for using a Yaesu desk mic, like the MD-100 or M70. Then tweak for your voice.

However, any mic can sound great on the 101 if you spend the time to properly adjust the FTDX101 EQ, AMC,ALC,TX Bandwidth.
The Yaesu MD-100A8X microphone is a good quality desk mic whose output level, frequency response, connectors and controls are tailored to modern Yaesu radios. On the FT-3000, -1200, and FT-991 it sounds pretty good (by my own experience) without any equalizer engaged.
