For those out of the loop or returning players like me, there is a third party launcher that offers in-game utilities and plugins to enrich your experience.
The first step is to get XIVLauncher, as with out that the other stuff wouldn't work. Some one here has a link to it. It has a guide on how to install it better than anyone here would type I think. There's a setting in that launcher that lets you enable Dalamund, which the reniguide touches on.
For QoL mods, use XIVLauncher (alternate, open source community made launcher) and its plugins. XIVLauncher is pretty much all about QoL improvements. I'd honestly recommend it for everyone and anyone playing on PC. For UI stuff, you'll want TexTools and the Material UI mod, which has tweaks and QoL available for it.

Copy a FFXIV Install. For the most part, FFXIV is portable. You just need to make sure you’ve installed DirectX as needed.
