   No one blatantly said it, but a wireless xbox360 controller does not work with a PC. You need the wired one, because the wireless (even with a plug and play) doesn't transfer data, only charges. I say get one.

   The x360 wireless receiver is the best way to go. But a Xbox One/Series Controller is better, since it has Bluetooth and can be directly connected to your phone and pc (via Bluetooth/xbox reciever for new controllers or usb)

   The modern xbox one and series controllers work with bluetooth - but microsoft's "xbox wireless" protocol is not only more reliable, it has less lag too. You can either get the "Xbox controller for windows 10" bundle, or find the dongle separately for ~$20

   The PC wireless receiver that worked with 360 controllers was discontinued long time ago. The usb adapter that has been out for some time, will not work with 360 controllers. Plus an xbox one or newer controller has better support for PC, than the 360 wireless controller.

   Another person gave you a link to the official Xbox USB Wireless Adapter for PC, but if you get the newest version of that, it will only work with Windows 10. I think the older, more bulkier, adapter worked with earlier versions of Windows.
