Check your account balance on your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One console. Press the Xbox button to open the guide. Select Profile & system > Settings > Account. Select Payment & billing. Your account balance appears to the right in the Microsoft account box.

Call that number and enter your account number, security code on the back of the card, or PIN if applicable. You may also be able to do this online.
