From what I can find though the battery pack is a fairly low capacity and despite being lithium-ion rather than NiMH, the one I had was pretty much useless within a year. It doesn't even last past 10 hours anymore.

Give them a shout, they should replace it. If they bitch tell them about the sale of goods act. A xbox should be sufficiently durable to last more than one (or two, or three, up to six, depending) years. The one year warranty thing is bullshit.
