I got the battery pack that charges with controller's own USB-C port and doesn't require any external charger or special cables. Bought in December from AliExpress and it hasn't left the controller yet.
I had the MS plug and charge kits for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Didn't do it this time on Series X. I got 4 rechargeable Enloop AA batteries and a charger for them. When the batteries in the controller die I swap out for the other pair of Enloops and then charge the dead ones. Its worked well for me.
