I have an official Xbox 360 controller wired into my M1 Macbook Pro with a USB3->USB-C adapter and https://gamepad-tester.com does work in Chrome, though not in Safari. (Steam doesn't see the controller either)
it's actually possible to connect xbox360 controller to macos sonoma. follow these steps: Download and install the following driver: https://github.com/360Controller/360Controller/files/9063388/Install360Controller.pkg.zip. Boot into Recovery mode (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201255). Open Terminal (Utilities -> Terminal).
The Big Sur update broke the kext (kernel extensions) method that the 360Controller driver used to work, so that's why it doesn't install or function anymore. The officially recommended method is to use bluetooth now, but I'm not actually sure if the 360 controller works natively.
