After a few days, I noticed that Windows wouldn't pick up the device after I connected it to the USB port. The lights were still turning on as expected, so hardware was probably still working, but the Wundows' device manager would pick it up as a "unknown USB device" rather than an "xbox 360 wireless receiver" or even just an "unknown device".
