The standard repair fee for the Xbox 360 at a Microsoft service center is $120.00 USD ($99 when I had mine serviced). You will probably have to have it sent in so that they can put the correct drive model, firmware and activation codes into the console to get it working.

I found my old Xbox in the attic, and something had fallen on it, putting a dent in the top of the disc drive so it doesn't work. But I have done some reading and wanna try and hardmod it to play all the old games on it plus maybe use it for an emulator for other games, etc.
Which install guide is the preferred method for replacing internal hard drives, including the formatting process and so on? Is there also a preferred hard drive shell to use? Thank you for any and all help you can provide.
The Xbox 360 is designed so that the DVD drive works only with the particular game console it is installed in. Replacing a defective DVD drive with a replacement DVD drive does not work, since the replacement has a different DVD drive key, which the game console won't accept.
