So I got wxPython2.8-2.8.9.1-1.src.rpm from the wxPython website and tried to build a rpm from that: rpmbuild --rebuild --define 'pyver 2.6' wxPython2.8-2.8.9.1-1.src.rpm That ended with this error message:
Just like "Classic" wxPython it wraps the wxWidgets C++ toolkit and provides access to the user interface portions of the wx API, enabling Python applications to have a GUI on Windows, Macs or Unix systems with a native look and feel and requiring very little (if any) platform specific code.
wxPython can be installed through apt-get by calling apt-get install python-wxgtk2.8 or apt-get install python-wxgtk2.6, depending on which version you want. You may have to call this with root permissions. The wxPython demo is in the wx-examples package.
You'll just have to install the RPMs it produces. They will include wxWidgets and wxPython and will be built for the Python on your system. Another possible approach to take would be to grab the stock wxGTK and wxPython SRPMs from a Fedora mirror and build them. For example:
On Linux the wxPython RPM for Python 2 puts wxPython in /usr/local/lib/python2.0/site-packages since Python 2 was installed in /usr/local on my build system. If Python 2 is in /usr on your system then you'll want to move (or link) wxPython to /usr/lib/python2.0/site-packages.
In windows and mac there is no problem, but in linux, you need to compile wx2.9. So, I've started to use checkinstall instead of just make install, with the benefit that it creates a .deb package easily installable. To explain the process, please see: http://wiki.wxpython.org/CheckInstall.
