I just tested your code in my virtualbox test-vm running opensuse 11.1 with python-wxGTK 2.8.9.1 from packman - and it segfaults. After trying with Windows that doesn't surprise me any more: this seems to be a Python 2.6 problem.
So I got wxPython2.8-2.8.9.1-1.src.rpm from the wxPython website and tried to build a rpm from that: rpmbuild --rebuild --define 'pyver 2.6' wxPython2.8-2.8.9.1-1.src.rpm. That ended with this error message: Sibylle, the newest wx packages are available on Packman. You can include the Packman repository with yast/software
You do need to have any build dependencies installed first so the build can use them, but you do not need to have a built and working Foo to be able to make a Foo RPM. The rpm tool will do both the build and the bundle of the target package.

wxPython can be installed through apt-get by calling apt-get install python-wxgtk2.8 or apt-get install python-wxgtk2.6, depending on which version you want. You may have to call this with root permissions. The wxPython demo is in the wx-examples package.
8 lut 2012 · mkdir wxpython-extract; cd wxpython-extract; rpm2cpio ../wxPython2.8-2.8.12.1-1.src.rpm | cpio -id will extract it all locally. You could also always just install the SRPM which would puts its files into the RPM build/spec file locations as specified by your rpm configuration (I believe).
