17 mar 2015 · Windows 7/Vista has a hidden boot partition, containing the BCD - boot configuration data. Similar to boot.ini but you can't easily edit it like you can with notepad and XP. You can also use the bcdedit tool: technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709667%28WS.10%29.aspx

29 mar 2009 · Windows 7 and Vista boot manager file is \bootmgr; Windows XP boot manager file is \ntldr; BCDEDIT can support other boot managers too, like grub for linux. You just have to place the boot file on the root of the boot manager partition. e.g. \grldr and you have a grub boot loader enabled.
1. You can physically copy the BCD store using file copy, or you can export the BCD store to any Windows drive. If you want to move Windows boot files (it is not enough to move just BCD file) to another partition this is another story. How to move Windows 7/8 boot files to another partition. Again this has only meaning for MBR disks.
