In general I prefer Game Maker to Unity when it comes to 2D development and I think it is slightly easier to learn for non-programmers. However if you want to specifically want to make a 2D Point & Click adventure, there are some tools out there that specifically to that.

Many games have dynamic stories where the player tells the story of the character by the actions chosen. Any othe media is limited in that it can't be dynamic.
