In general I prefer Game Maker to Unity when it comes to 2D development and I think it is slightly easier to learn for non-programmers. However if you want to specifically want to make a 2D Point & Click adventure, there are some tools out there that specifically to that.

Quest lets you make interactive story games. Text adventure games like Zork and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Gamebooks like the Choose Your Own Adventure and Fighting Fantasy books. You don't need to know how to program. All you need is a story to tell. Your game can be played anywhere.
GameMaker is a great choice, but a few pieces of advice. If you start trying to make a game without learning the engine and how to code, you’re going to have a rough time. Follow some tutorials, get familiar with the way the engine works and the language, don’t expect to be a master in a week.
