   In general I prefer Game Maker to Unity when it comes to 2D development and I think it is slightly easier to learn for non-programmers. However if you want to specifically want to make a 2D Point & Click adventure, there are some tools out there that specifically to that.

No matter how intricate your game story is, it ALWAYS gets condensed to a few lines in peoples minds. For example, Half Life's story can be condensed to: "hero fights alien invaders from ____".
