If you want to use GameMaker, I would recommend using current version. GameMaker was previously called GameMaker Studio 2, name changed to just "GameMaker". GameMaker has free version without time or resource limitation, and you can publish to GX games. If you wish to export to other targets, you need subscribe though.
17 sty 2024 · In the game maker download section, there is the option to download game maker studio 1.4, and I want to know if it is now free, since I don't understand why they would put the program there if you can't buy a license
I'm using 1.4 currently. Downloaded 2.X free to check compatibility with my current project. Didn't seem too bad. Just a few things with views and backgrounds and a few other things and the project is converted from 1.4 to 2. Ran without errors on first compile.

I previously used 1.4.9999 or whatever it was called - the final release of GMS1 - but it wouldn't work properly after I updated Windows so I was forced to downgrade. I use GMS1.4 because I'm very comfortable with the interface.
