If you want to use GameMaker, I would recommend using current version. GameMaker was previously called GameMaker Studio 2, name changed to just "GameMaker". GameMaker has free version without time or resource limitation, and you can publish to GX games. If you wish to export to other targets, you need subscribe though.
You can find all the old versions of gamemaker online going back to version 1. These still work on windows 10 at least, probably 11 too, so you should be able to open your old projects without issue. I use GMS1.4.1567. I previously used 1.4.9999 or whatever it was called - the final release of GMS1 - but it wouldn't work properly after I updated Windows so I was forced to downgrade. I use GMS1.4 because I'm very comfortable with the interface. I've been using GameMaker since GM7, for over a decade.
