Nationals of most countries need a visa to visit Mexico. You don’t need a visa for Mexico only if you are from a visa-exempt country or you are in the category of people which makes you exempt from Mexico visas, as detailed below.
Currently, only 69 countries enjoy visa-exempt status for Mexico. Whether they need to get a visa or not all visitors entering Mexico by land must obtain and complete an FMM (Forma Migratoria Multiple, or Tourist Card) before they can enter.
As of 22 October 2023, all foreign travelers whose passport of citizenship require a visa to enter Mexico; must obtain a transit visa from a Mexican diplomatic mission prior to boarding a flight to Mexico, regardless if the traveler will not be entering Mexico.
