21 mar 2024 · Prickly pear cocktails bring a fresh twist to the bar scene, blending the unique sweetness and tang of the desert fruit with spirits for a memorable drink. The pinkish-red hue of prickly pears, harvested from cacti, not only adds vibrant color but also imparts a distinctive flavor.
The fruit is collected between August and September of each year from local farmers. The pulp from the fruit is extracted from the plant which is the typical “plate shaped” leaf, is sieved into vets and fermented with the addition of a yeast species. The results are an exceptional bajtra liqueur.
Homemade, Bergamot liqueur, an old family recipe, very easy and simple to do. A liqueur with a subtle flavor, that is made with a whole bergamot, and a few cloves/pins. The alcoohol may be brandy or greek tsipouro.
Ingredients. 25 Ripe Prickley pears. 1 liter Vodka. 250 ml Sugar syrup. Instructions. Sterilize a large 2 liter jar with a clip down lid. Take care to peel all of the ficatini and place them into a large bowl. Mash with either a fork or wear a pair of latex gloves like I did and massage the pulp, break it up for a minute or so.

Pear liqueur isn’t one you can readily buy in the supermarket and if you can find it then it is pretty damn pricy! Making homemade liqueurs is fun and easy without even any actual cooking involved. Pear liqueur makes a wonderful gift, especially at Christmas.
