Coffee is brewed from the ground roasted beans, which are typically steeped in hot water before being filtered out. It is usually served hot, although chilled or iced coffee is common. Coffee can be prepared and presented in a variety of ways (e.g., espresso, French press, caffè latte, or already-brewed canned coffee).
Despite there being over 100 species of coffee plant, the world’s coffee is made up of just three species. The arabica species makes up 60 – 70 percent, 30 – 40 percent is made up of the robusta species, and less than two percent is from the liberica species.
Coffee produced from the less acidic, more bitter, and more highly caffeinated robusta bean (C. canephora) makes up most of the remaining coffee production. The natural populations of Coffea arabica are restricted to the forests of South Ethiopia and Yemen.
