Contents. Ashokan Center. The Ashokan Center (formerly the Ashokan Field Campus, listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as the Ashokan Field Campus Historic District, [ 1 ] is a 385-acre (156-hectare) outdoor education, conference, and retreat center located in the Catskill Mountains of New York.
The Ashokan Center is an independent music & nature nonprofit established in 2008. We welcome school groups for Educational Field Trips, host public community events including festivals and Music & Dance Camps, and rent our facility for private retreats, conferences, and weddings.
19 paź 2023 · It is located in the Town of Olive, south of Beaverkill Road approximately one-half mile, or so. It is over the Esopus Creek, a single span of 62 feet and displays a Town truss. It was moved to the present location in the 1930’s.
18 gru 2021 · “Ashokan” refers to the Ashokan Reservoir, which is located a short distance from the site of the camp and supplies 40% of New York City’s Water. It was created by damming part of the Esopus Valley in 1915, and it currently covers 10,000 acres.
For many students, visiting the Ashokan Center was both a grade-level rite of passage and a multi-generational legacy trip for their families, with entire families sharing experiences such as crossing the wiggly bridge, weighing their food waste, or making a fire poker.
Ashokan was the name of a former village in the Catskill region [1] that is now mostly covered by the Ashokan Reservoir. Use in The Civil War documentary series. In 1984, filmmaker Ken Burns heard "Ashokan Farewell" and was moved by it.
