History. The NL and the AL acted as independent organizations from their founding in the 19th century.
In 1901 the AL declared itself a major league. For its inaugural major league season the AL dropped its teams in Indianapolis, Buffalo and Minneapolis and replaced them with franchises in Boston, Philadelphia, and Baltimore and the Kansas City Blues moved to Washington to play as the Senators.
Formed in 1876 and 1901, respectively, the NL and AL cemented their cooperation with the National Agreement in 1903, making MLB the oldest major professional sports league in the world.
Tropicana Field (nicknamed "The Trop") is a multi-purpose domed stadium located in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States."The Trop" has been the home of the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball since the team's inaugural season in 1998.The stadium is also used for college football, and from December 2008 to December 2017 was the home of the St. Petersburg Bowl, an annual postseason bowl game.
